EDUCATION: Hillside Elementary First Grade Community Project, Fall 2008
Puppet Junction's Serra Hirsch had an art
residency at Hillside
Elementary School in Hastings-on-the-Hudson, NY. Serra worked with
all 5 first grade classes on a community based project, each class
recreating the Hastings community within a suitcase, using cereal boxes,
paper crafts and found objects. You can see some pictures of the end
result below.
The Dalí Project (work in progress): A puppet exploration of Salvador Dalí’s embrace
of the subconscious, The Dalí Project will transport the audience from a
contemporary reality into a blurred world of fantastical creatures and deep
underlying messages. The piece will mirror Dalí’s multifarious methods of art-making by using
various types of puppetry, as well as different mediums within the piece –
puppetry (Bunraku, Rod, Shadow, and more), choreography, projections, found
objects, unique set/furniture design, exploratory mood music and sound effects. For more information and images of the show, please visit our Dalí page.
The Dalí Project is influenced in part by a previous production, Sleep/Sommeil (2006) developed and built by Serra Hirsch and Matt Jackson. Below are images from that project (double click on picture below to open slide show).
